Month: September 2021
We wanted to pass along this important letter and request from David Bishop:
Hi MyApnea Team,
I am writing to you as a sleep apnea patient, a patient advocate, and a board member of the Alliance for Sleep Apnea Partners. I have been invited to participate in a briefing for members of the United States House of Representatives Sleep Health Caucus on September 21, 2021. The briefing will be done in conjunction with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) on the topic of sleep, COVID-19, and COVID-19 vaccine response. The invitation by AASM is a genuine effort to include a patient perspective about the pandemic, and how it affects an individual’s sleep health. Additionally, those in our sleep community with sleep apnea have experienced a monumental recall of Phillips manufactured continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines. Prior to the recall, the US healthcare system employed Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BI-Pap) machines to assist in treating those hospitalized for COVID-19. Now, more than ever, it is critical to voice our experiences with these issues and how our sleep health has been impacted.
I am inviting members of this forum to share either on the blog or to me directly how the pandemic has affected your sleep health.
If you have been affected by COVID-19 or the recall, I would like to hear about how that experience affected your physical and emotional health.
The information will be used to convey to members of the Sleep Health Caucus the range of issues faced by sleep patients during the pandemic. I’ll also discuss additional issues faced as a result of the Phillips recall. I will not disclose any names, nor will I forward any email or specific information received by patients.
If anyone would like to email me directly, I can be reached at [email protected] If you’d like to provide your brief story, please do so by Sunday September 19, 2021 either on the forum or to me directly.
I’d like to thank MyAnea for posting this information.
