A month of CPAP – my experience – iDunmed

I know many of you are struggling with CPAP, or are anxious about starting therapy. I wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone.

I don’t know when my symptoms first began. Like many people, the creeping fatigue and other symptoms like morning headaches just felt like part of getting older. I would sleep fitfully every night, always tossing and turning. I was sleeping in uncomfortable positions to try and breathe better, giving me back and neck pain. My snoring was becoming worse and the brain fog was intolerable, so I went off for a sleep study. My AHI was in the high 20s. Bad, but not extreme.

I purchased a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset with a Resmed N30i mask. That afternoon, I put on the machine and took a 2 hour nap. I fell asleep within 10 minutes.

I was reborn.

I jumped out of bed, astonished at how alert I felt. That 2 hour nap was more refreshing and restorative than any sleep I’d had in the last 10 years.

In the month since that first nap, I have not slept for a single moment without my machine. My average AHI is 1, and I sleep soundly every night. My spouse has noticed that I am much happier in the morning, and I generally feel a greater sense of well-being. My mind is sharper, and I feel much more motivated. I’m better able to tolerate problems, and I’m far less prone to anger.

I would say that I feel like a new person, but that’s wrong. I feel like the person I used to be – the person I’m meant to be.

I find my mask so comfortable that I often forget I’m wearing it. When I switch on the machine and put on the mask, a wave of calm happiness washes over me, and I drift off to sleep.

If you suspect you have sleep apnea, seek treatment as soon as you can. If you’re struggling with CPAP therapy, keep at it. Your quality of life will improve so much, and your life will be longer too.

My life has been transformed!
