I’ve recently been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea following a sleep study and find the conclusion of the study to be confusing. The test was over a seven hour period and indicated a total count of 14 obstructive apnea, 110 central apnea, and 96 hypopnea. Leading to an AHI of 31.4. This was classified as purely obstructive in the doctors summary even thought there is a large component of central apnea present.
I’m concerned about this because I take medications for bipolar disorder that there’s some evidence could cause breathing problems long term. Also, I don’t have any of the typical traits associated with obstructive apnea, my blood pressure and most other physical measurements are within the normal range. I want to make sure I’m not neglecting something by going solely with the standard course of treament for obstructive sleep apnea.
If anyone more knowledgeable about these metrics could help me understand I’d be grateful. I just got the test results yesterday and I’m in a bit of panic about it.
