I’ve done sleep tests a few months ago and waiting for a callback. Unfortunately with COVID this is considered non-urgent so it may be a while more, but I am 99% sure I have sleep apnea.

I am at a point where I usually wake up 4-5 times in an 8 hour night with my throat super dry and I need to drink at least 1 full glass of water just to feel like I can breathe normally again. I find if I don’t eat in the evening this isn’t as bad but still not good. I can’t sleep on my back at all anymore. I need to sleep on my side to even have a chance to be rested. I sometimes can’t sleep on my side either from my airways getting super dry and I find sleeping in a recliner is my only option then, although the rest quality isn’t great there (legs feel awful after sleeping on a recliner).

But the worst part is how non-functional I get. About 8-10 years ago, I could regularly do overnights and still be functional the next day. Today, if I get less than 6 hours of sleep, I literally can’t function the next day and I feel almost catatonic. 8 hours is the minimum to feel only mildly awful. If I sleep 10-12 hours I can feel pretty decent but I can’t sleep that long most days.

It’s awful. I can’t wait to get a CPAP because this is destroying my life and I hope this will help. I can barely get any work done during the week and am honestly afraid I will get fired for low productivity from poor sleep quality. It’s just gotten progressively worse throughout 2020 and I went from mediocre sleep quality to abysmal sleep quality.

I just want nothing more than a good night’s sleep.
