So after five months after seeing a sleep specialist I have finally gotten my ASV. Last night was my fourth night on it and it’s been very difficult to get and stay asleep. The first two nights I was awake for about four hours before I gave up and took it off. The last two nights I’ve gotten around two hours on the machine before waking up and not being able to go back to sleep. My doctor recommended taking 10mg Melatonin and 25mg Benadryl and I have been using that the past three nights.
I also had difficulty sleeping with a CPAP my first night in the sleep lab, got about an hour of sleep that night. When I was diagnosed with obstructive as well as central sleep apnea I had to go back and get tested on an ASV and that was even worse, probably got 45 minutes of sleep.
I think my problem is that I the constant pressure on and off my face when I breathe (I have a full face mask, couldn’t tolerate a nasal mask/pillow with my deviated septum) is too distracting and is bothering me when I sleep. If it were just one constant pressure like the CPAP it wouldn’t be too bad but the constant on off on off pressure at night is very distracting. If anyone has any advise it would be greatly appreciated.
