Don’t mean to alarm anyone but this was the first time during the 5 ish years of working on sleep apnea issues that this has been brought up. As a “just so you know, this is a possibility” a sleep doctor informed me that some patients may have a permanent (not sure if its fixable naturally over time) alteration to their brain function due to the sleepiness or fatigue from years of sleep apnea independent of AHI levels.

This was shocking and scary to me as while I’ve noticed a significant decay in my quality of life over the past 5 years I never heard that the repurcussions of apnea can be permanent. I was told in these cases the patient essentially has to be on a stimulant to counter the effects of the lasting symptoms.
