A few years ago my wife said my snoring was out of control and it freaked her out hearing me stop breathing and gasping for air in the middle of the night. Finally I went to the dr and I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I don’t remember how many events per hour, but it was enough to make me stop breathing during the night and feel like crap all day. Once I got my CPAP life was pretty good but I wasn’t happy about being attached to a machine to sleep.
I’m not super heavy but could definitely stand to lose a few pounds. In the last couple of years I’ve been working on getting into shape and I’ve dropped about 60 lbs so far (I have about another 10 to go to get to where I want to be). A couple weeks ago, I fell asleep on the couch and by the time I made it to bed I just crashed and forgot to put my CPAP on. When I woke up, I felt great. In fact, I woke up before the alarm! My wife said I didn’t snore at all!
I couldn’t believe it! I tried it a few more nights to be sure it wasn’t a fluke and had the same results. Just to be 100% sure I scheduled a new sleep evaluation and sure enough, it’s almost completely gone! I had one or two very mild events during the whole night and the message from the doctor said my apnea was so mild the CPAP was completely optional!
What an awesome holiday gift!! I am over the moon and just wanted to share with people that would understand how I’m feeling. I never expected to get to a point I wouldn’t need the CPAP anymore. Just goes to show how taking care of your body can pay off!
