I went to have a sleep study last night. It was in a hospital. It was very comfortable, with a nice bed and a Laz-y-Boy chair, and did not look like a hospital room.
It was my first test in 20 years.
From what I understand? They were studying me to see if I should use the BiPAP machine instead of the CPAP I’m currently using.
I was told that I might need pressure that is higher than what the BiPAP offers.
They also tried a new mask on me – a full face mask that covers your mouth and your nose but does not go anywhere near your eyes. It’s for people who don’t have a ridge in their nose. I did not know it existed.
I have dry eye syndrome and every time my prior mask would blow air into my eyes and I would get some kind of weird issues with my eyes.
I kept having to go back and forth to the eye doctor until the eye doctor requested that I use the nasal pillows.
So the nasal pillows kept the air out of my eyes. Now, it seems that all along I really should have been using something that covered my nose and my mouth.
Now I have to wait to see what the results are and what the doctor says.
On a side note?
The doctor started me on Trazodone (to sleep) and Modafinil (to wake).
I am glad that I am seeing a board-certified doctor that specializes in sleep disorders.
Does anyone else use a machine other than the CPAP or BiPAP?
